History

During the early 1900s, Charlotte was a thriving hub for textile production, and many of the wealthiest businessmen in the state lived in the area known as Myers Park. It all begin in 1891 when John Springs Myers drew up plans to create a suburb from his farmland. His son-in-law, George Stephens, helped those dreams become a reality in 1911 when he hired a city planner named John Nolen to create a new vision for the land. The neighborhood was so attractive that it earned national recognition. As the years passed, the community continued to grow. In 1995, many of its buildings and homes landed a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.
